How to Add Your Menu to Google Maps (Step-by-Step)

When someone searches for a café or restaurant nearby, Google Maps is often the first place they see you. If your listing shows a menu, they can decide to come in before they even leave the house. If it doesn't, many will simply pick the place next door that does.
Google gives food and drink businesses three ways to show a menu on their Business Profile: a menu link, menu items typed into Google, and photos of your menu. This guide walks through each one and explains which to use.
Before you start
- You need a claimed Google Business Profile for your venue (business.google.com)
- Your business category should be a food and drink category, such as restaurant, café or bar. Don't change your category just to get menu features
- Have your menu ready as a web link. A QR menu link works well because it is a single page that always shows your current menu
Option 1: Add a menu link (recommended)
A menu link sends people from Google straight to your online menu. It's the easiest option to keep up to date, because you only change the menu in one place.
- 1. Go to business.google.com and open your profile
- 2. Select Edit profile, then Business information, then Contact (on desktop Search: Edit profile, then Contact)
- 3. Find the Menu link field and paste the link to your menu
- 4. Select Save. Changes can take 24 to 48 hours to appear on Google Maps and Search
Use the same link that your table QR codes open. When you change a price or a dish, Google, your tables, your Instagram bio and your window sign all show the new menu straight away.
Option 2: Add menu items in Google
You can also type dishes, prices and sections directly into Google. They appear in the Menu tab of your listing.
- 1. Open your Business Profile and select Edit menu
- 2. Choose Add menu section, give it a name such as Breakfast, and add at least one item
- 3. Choose Add menu item to add a dish with its price and a short description
- 4. Select Save
The downside is upkeep: every price change has to be made in Google as well as on your own menu. If you go this way, set a reminder to check it whenever your menu changes.
Option 3: Add photos of your menu
- 1. Open your Business Profile and select Edit menu
- 2. At the top, choose Photos of menu, then select photos or a PDF
- 3. Use clear, straight-on, well-lit photos so every price is readable
Menu photos are quick to add, but old photos keep showing old prices until you replace them. Remove outdated photos whenever your menu changes.
Which option should you use?
- Add the menu link in every case: it's the one place you never have to update
- Add menu items if you want dishes to show directly in Google, and you're happy to update them
- Add menu photos if you don't have a digital menu yet, and replace them when prices change
- If Google finds more than one menu source, choose the one you prefer under the Full menu tab in Edit menu
